Getting started
How do I generate a recipe?
Type 2-5 ingredients you have on hand into the box on the home page (separated by commas), then tap "Generate Recipe". Within 10-20 seconds you get a full recipe with ingredients, steps, and an AI-generated photo. You can also tap one of the suggested ingredient chips to try it instantly.
Can I take a photo of my fridge instead of typing?
Yes — tap "Snap your ingredients" below the textbox and upload a photo. The AI identifies the ingredients in the image and generates a recipe from what it sees. Works best with clear, well-lit photos of items on a counter or fridge shelf.
Can I filter by diet, cuisine, or servings?
Yes. The dropdowns under the textbox let you set the diet (balanced, low-carb, high-protein, vegan, vegetarian), cuisine (American, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, and 12 more), and servings (1-8). Defaults are balanced, any cuisine, 2 servings.
Credits and billing
How does the credit system work?
Free accounts get 5 fresh recipe generations per day, refreshing daily at midnight UTC. Premium subscribers get 15 per day plus access to longer ingredient lists and priority generation. Cached recipes (popular ingredient combinations) do not count against your daily credit.
How do I upgrade to Premium?
Tap the "Upgrade" button in the navbar or visit /pricing. Premium is $4.99/month, billed via Stripe. You can cancel any time from the Profile page.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Sign in, go to Profile, and tap "Manage subscription". This opens the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel, update payment method, or download invoices. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep Premium until then.
I was charged but my account still shows free — what now?
Sometimes the webhook from Stripe to our servers is slow (rare, but happens). Sign out and back in to force a refresh. If still showing free after 5 minutes, email us with your Stripe receipt ID and we will fix it manually within a few hours.
Recipes and saved items
Are my generated recipes saved?
Yes — every recipe you generate is automatically saved to your browser's local storage and stays available across sessions on the same device. Sign in to sync them to your account so they persist across devices.
How do I share a recipe?
Each recipe has a permanent URL like /recipe/<id>. Tap the share button on the recipe page to copy the link, or use your browser's share sheet on mobile. The recipe is publicly viewable at that URL.
Can I print a recipe?
Yes — tap the print button on the recipe page. The print stylesheet hides ads, navigation, and affiliate buttons so you get a clean printable card with ingredients, steps, and nutrition.
Meal planner and shopping list
How does the meal planner work?
Open /planner to see a 7-day grid (Monday-Sunday). Tap "+ Add meal" on any day to add a recipe from your saved list, or use AI Suggest to auto-fill the week based on a category and dietary preference. Drag the handle on a meal card to reorder, or use the 3-dot menu to move it to another day.
How does the shopping list work?
Open any recipe and tap "Add all to shopping list" to push every ingredient to /shopping-list. The list groups items by aisle (Produce, Meat, Dairy, etc.) so you can shop section-by-section. Check items off as you grab them; checked items grey out but stay on the list until you clear them.
Why is my meal planner empty after I added meals?
Meal plan data is stored in your browser's local storage, so it does not sync across devices yet. If you switched browsers, used incognito mode, or cleared site data, the plan is reset. We are working on optional account-sync for meal plans — currently saved recipes sync but meal plans do not.
Recipe images
Why does the recipe image not match the recipe?
Our image AI (Imagen 4 Fast) is excellent at most dishes but occasionally produces an off-target image — usually for unusual ingredient combinations or short recipe titles. If you see a clearly wrong image, tap the "Report image" button under the recipe photo. We review reports daily and regenerate the image when needed.
Can I generate a different image for the same recipe?
Tap "Generate different recipe" on the recipe page to get a fresh recipe + image variant for the same ingredients. Each ingredient combination has up to 3 cached variants we rotate between. If none match what you want, generate a new combination by editing the ingredients on the home page.
