  1. 1

Prepare the Avocado-Lime Salsa: Halve and pit the avocados, then scoop out the flesh and dice it into small cubes. Finely dice the red onion and roughly chop the fresh cilantro. In a small bowl, combine the diced avocado, red onion, cilantro, the juice of one lime, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/8 tsp black pepper. Gently mix to combine and set aside.

  2. 2

Prepare Tuna: Pat the tuna steaks dry thoroughly with paper towels. Season both sides of each tuna steak with the remaining 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper.

  3. 3

Sear Tuna: Heat olive oil in a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers and just begins to smoke. Add the seasoned tuna steaks to the hot skillet.

  4. 4

Cook to Desired Doneness: Sear for 1-2 minutes per side for rare, 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer for desired doneness. The cooking time will depend on the thickness of your tuna steaks and your preference.

  5. 5

Serve: Carefully remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for one minute. Slice the tuna steaks against the grain if desired, then top each serving with a generous spoonful of the fresh avocado-lime salsa. Serve immediately.
