Simple Tomato Basil Pasta

"A classic Italian-inspired dish featuring al dente pasta tossed with fresh, ripe tomatoes, fragrant basil, garlic, and a hint of olive oil. This light and flavorful meal is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner."
Ingredients
All Steps
- 1
Cook spaghetti according to package directions in a large pot of salted water until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining.
- 2
While the pasta cooks, halve the cherry tomatoes and finely mince the garlic.
- 3
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30-60 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- 4
Add the halved cherry tomatoes to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 8-10 minutes, or until the tomatoes have softened and released their juices, forming a light sauce. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 5
Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the tomato sauce. Toss to combine. If the sauce seems too dry, add a tablespoon or two of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.
- 6
Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the fresh basil leaves until just wilted.
- 7
Serve immediately, garnished with extra fresh basil if desired.
